The Life Giving Nature of Scripture 📖

As we saw yesterday, some of the most powerful pictures of the majesty of Scripture are in the Psalms.

Look at the second half of Psalm 19 for how the words of God give life to believers:

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,

 reviving the soul;

the testimony of the Lord is sure,

 making wise the simple;

8 the precepts of the Lord are right,

 rejoicing the heart;

the commandment of the Lord is pure,

 enlightening the eyes;

9 the fear of the Lord is clean,

 enduring forever;

the rules of the Lord are true,

and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold,

even much fine gold;

sweeter also than honey

and drippings of the honeycomb.

11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;

 in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can discern his errors?

Declare me innocent from hidden faults.

13  Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;

let them not have dominion over me!

Then I shall be blameless,

and innocent of great transgression.

Psalm 19:7–13

And then finally, look at the stunning way Psalm 19 ends:

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

be acceptable in your sight,

O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Psalm 19:14

As we’ve seen in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, and now in Psalm 19 —

the Word of God reveals the heart of God.

God’s heart is to mold us into the people he originally created us to be by:

  • reviving our souls

  • making us wise

  • enlightening our eyes such that we see how he sees

  • giving us insight into how sin breaks his heart

  • redeeming us, making us blameless in his sight

God wants to restore us to the image bearers He created so that we can:

  • live in intimate relationship with him

  • represent him to all of creation and be the rulers of this world we were designed to be

What about Jesus? ✝️

The Gospel is the central thread running through all of Scripture, and 2 Timothy 3:16-17 reveals how God uses his Word to reveal and fulfill his redemptive plan.

Paul describes Scripture as “breathed out by God,” which reminds us of Jesus Christ, the ultimate revelation of God and the foundation of the Gospel.

3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power

Hebrews 1:3

Scripture equips us for every good work because it directs us to the one who accomplished the greatest work of all—Jesus’ death and resurrection.

The Bible testifies to humanity’s sinfulness and our inability to save ourselves —

— but it also proclaims the good news that Christ lived, died, and rose again to restore our relationship with God.

39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,

Jesus in John 5:39

In a world where human wisdom often falters, Scripture offers the unchanging truth of salvation.

It trains us not only to live righteously but also to embrace and share the hope of the Gospel.

Through the Word, we come to understand our need for grace and the abundant life offered in Christ.

If you have never accepted the amazing gift of salvation and a personal relationship with God, is today the day you do it?

If you want to experience eternal transformation, take the first step and pray something like this:

Lord God, I want to accept your free gift of salvation and start a personal relationship with you.

I recognize that I have not lived loyally to you, and I have broken your laws and your heart. I am truly sorry, and I ask for your forgiveness.

Please fill my life with your Spirit and transform me into a disciple of Jesus who follows you relentlessly and tells others about you.

Amen 🙏
