The Plan All Along 🌳

The promise of God dwelling with us begins in Genesis.

After humanity’s sin in the garden, God promised that the woman's offspring would crush the serpent’s head (Genesis 3:15).

This first glimmer of hope pointed to a Savior who would restore what sin had broken.

Throughout the Old Testament, God’s plan unfolds further through prophets:

  • Isaiah speaks of a virgin giving birth to a son

  • Micah foretells the Savior’s birth in Bethlehem

  • Jeremiah proclaims the coming of a righteous King from David’s line

Each prophecy builds on the hope of God stepping into human history to save Israel — and the whole world.

And then, seemingly “silence.”

For 400 years, no recorded new revelations came, but the anticipation remained.

That anticipation exploded into joy on the night Jesus was born. In the quiet town of Bethlehem, under the humblest of circumstances, the angels announced:

10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:10-11

All of Scripture tells the story of God wanting to be in the presence of people:

  • In the Garden, God was with us

  • In a pillar of smoke and fire, God was with the Israelites

  • In the temple, God was with the Israelites

  • In Jesus, God came to be with us

  • Through the Holy Spirit, God dwells inside us

  • In the New Heavens and New Earth, what we had in the Garden will be restored: God will be with us in fullness again

3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

Revelation 21:3

Isaiah’s prophecy in 7:14 is an essential part of this beautiful story.

The Uniqueness of Jesus ✝️

Here’s the incredible truth about the virgin-born Immanuel promised in Isaiah 7:14:

God didn’t just come to live among us as Jesus — God came to save us.

Jesus wasn’t just born to be with us. He was born to die for us.

Because Jesus was fully human, he could represent us and take our place.
Because he was fully God, his sacrifice was perfect and able to cover the sins of the whole world.

That puts Jesus Christ in a unique position to defeat the sickness and disease of sin.

The book of Hebrews puts it this way:

17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

Hebrews 2:17

The manger led to the cross. The cross led to the empty tomb.

And the empty tomb leads us to a new life in God.

Through Jesus, God didn’t only come near.

He made a way for us to be with the Lord forever.

Apply & Respond: Be There 🫂

Isaiah 7:14 and the story of Immanuel call us to live differently.

God stepped into the world to save us—how can we reflect that kind of selfless love in our lives?

Here’s one simple action you can take today:

Be present for someone who needs you.

That could look like…

  • Calling a friend who’s struggling

  • Offering to help to someone in your community

  • Slowing down and really listening when someone speaks to you

God’s presence through Jesus wasn’t distant. It was real, tangible, and deeply personal. Let your presence be the same for someone else today.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign.

Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
