CONTEXT 📕

We covered quite a bit of ground this week, so let’s recap the main points:

  • On Monday, we learned that Joel (one of 12 minor prophets) wrote to people in the kingdom of Judah who were dealing with a locust plague, economic hardship, and apathetic faith.

  • On Tuesday, we dove into “The Day of Lord” and the cycle of God’s love that we see play out in Scripture and our own lives:

    • Judgment

    • Repentance

    • Mercy

    • Restoration

  • On Wednesday, we learned that God invites us to repent (turn and move towards Him), pour out our sin at his feet, and return to genuine worship with all of our being. We gave tangible examples of how you can move towards God.

  • And on Thursday, we saw how the words of Joel pointed ahead to the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the pouring out of the Spirit in the early church, and all of us today are the recipients of the same Spirit Joel spoke of thousands of years ago.

TOGETHER WITH THE POUR OVER

One thing we know is eternal is the Word of God.

"The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

Isaiah 40:8

That’s one of the reasons why we love The Pour Over.

In addition to being 100% free, every news story is paired with a brief passage from Scripture to help you stay focused on Christ while consuming the news.

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃‍♂️

Just as Joel prophesied, the Holy Spirit has come and drawn people (including you!) to the Father through the work of Jesus Christ.

And He is still drawing people to Himself today - He is working on your neighbors, coworkers, friends and family members.

And now, YOU get to be part of how God fulfills the words He spoke through Joel!

So let’s share our faith boldly.

Bring to mind one name of a friend or family member who doesn’t know Jesus.

The next time you’re with them, ask God for an opportunity to simply share how He has changed your life.

True friends know your faith is important to you, and they want to hear more about it.

You can start the conversation with something like:

Hey, you know I’m a Christian but I don’t think I’ve ever shared why. Do you mind if I share a bit of my story?

14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Romans 10:14
