What we watch matters. Scripture calls us to set our minds on things that are true, honorable, and pure — and most “entertainment” these days doesn't make that easy.

Great American Pure Flix is one of the few places we've found that takes this seriously. Faith and family aren't afterthoughts tucked into the credits. They're the foundation the stories are built on. So you can settle in and actually enjoy movie night without worrying about an inappropriate scene.

CONTEXT 📕

Leviticus 19:18 is integral to the Old Testament, and its call to “love your neighbor as yourself” continues throughout the New Testament and becomes central to the teaching of Jesus and the apostles.

Jesus directly quotes this command and identifies it as the second greatest commandment, paired with loving God (Matthew 22:39; Mark 12:31).

In Luke’s Gospel, the command appears again when Jesus affirms the summary of the law: love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27).

Additionally, the apostles continue to highlight this command as a foundation of Christian life. Paul writes that the commandments about moral behavior…

“are summed up in this word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Romans 13:9

In Galatians, he goes even further, saying:

“For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’”

Galatians 5:14

Finally, James calls this command the “royal law” — the law that governs the kingdom of God (James 2:8).

Yet the New Testament does more than simply repeat the command. It also shows us what loving our neighbor actually looks like, and it does so through the life of Jesus.

During his ministry, Jesus consistently crossed boundaries to care for people others avoided. He touched lepers whom society had cast out. He welcomed and ate with tax collectors. He showed compassion to the poor, the sick, and the marginalized.

Ultimately, though, Jesus demonstrated love in the most radical way possible: through his death on the cross.

Christ gave himself not only for those who followed him, but also for those who rejected him, mocked him, and even crucified him.

His sacrifice was for all people.

In doing so, Jesus reveals the fullest expression of loving our enemies: self-sacrificial love for the good of others who do not deserve it.

10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

Romans 5:10

We were enemies of God. Yet, He died for us.

We were headed for judgment and eternal separation from God, but — compelled by His love for us — Jesus died the death we deserved.

He freed us from the penalty of sin (mercy).

And he reconciled us to the Father, giving us His righteousness (grace).

He wiped away our debt.

And then He deposited righteousness in our account.

It is through this amazing grace and the power of the Holy Spirit that we are utterly transformed.

From this place, let’s be compelled to show love to the people God put in our lives.

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃‍♂

Loving our neighbor is not just a nice idea — it is the practical expression of a life shaped by God. The love described in Leviticus 19 and embodied by Jesus is active and sacrificial. It pushes us beyond our comfort zones, beyond pride, and beyond self-interest so that we seek the good of others.

Because Christ has shown us this kind of love and is transforming our hearts, we can begin to practice it in real and tangible ways. Here are a few examples:

  • Pay attention to someone around you who may need encouragement, kindness, or listening

  • Let go of a lingering resentment and move toward forgiveness

  • Give up a personal convenience to help meet someone else’s need

🙏 Pray

Father, search my heart and show me where I have failed to love others well. Through your Holy Spirit, bring to mind someone I can intentionally care for this week, and make it clear how I can sacrifice to love them. May it be to your glory, Lord. Amen.

I have been using the app for one week and for the first time since being saved 3 years ago I've actually memorized a Bible verse. I not only am proud of this since I've never figured out a way to retain verses, but am certain that as time goes on I can confidently quote scripture in real life situations when needed.
