Connecting Matthew 4:4 to other parts of Scripture 📖

Let’s connect Matthew 4:4 to a few other parts of Scripture:

In verse Matthew 4:3, the enemy says this to tempt Jesus:

“If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

This sounds a lot like Matthew 27:40 when Jesus was on the cross, which says:

“You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

Jesus' response (the verse we’re memorizing this week) communicates a similar message to John 4:34 after his interaction with the Samaritan woman at the well:

My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

Apply & respond 🏃

One practical step you can take in response to Matthew 4:4 is to imitate Jesus in moments of testing or temptation.

Do what Jesus did

Just like Jesus says in John 4:34, you can remind yourself:

My food is to do the will of my Father in heaven.
