To Recap 🔁
There’s a lot of richness behind Matthew 28:19-20 that we’ve uncovered!
To recap, we’ve learned:
Matthew’s audience was primarily Jewish Christians and believers who were well-versed in Jewish traditions and Old Testament Scriptures.
The main purpose of the Gospel of Matthew is to present Jesus as:
The Messiah from the line of David
The authoritative Teacher or “new Moses”
God with us (Immanuel)
Matthew 28:19-20 makes up some of Jesus’ last words before he ascends into Heaven.
He’s been raised from the dead, demonstrating his power, and know he’s telling his followers the most important information they MUST know and act upon.
Authority
We learned that Jesus’ commission flows from his supreme authority:
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Then in Jesus’ commission in Matthew 28:19-20, he urges his disciples to:
Disciple
Baptize
Teach
This is the recipe for bringing the Kingdom of God to the WHOLE world 🌍️
We saw how Jesus is not just commanding us to make disciples…
He’s commanding us to make disciple-makers.
And we came face-to-face with this hard truth:
If we are not personally, actively making disciple-makers, we are not obeying Jesus.
It’s not enough to just make disciples.
We must make disciples who then go and make disciples.
Jesus wants more people in his Kingdom. And the way he wants to do that is through multiplication.
Our mission is an extension of the promise to Abraham to be a blessing to all nations.
Believers in Christ get an amazing opportunity to participate in being a blessing to people all across the globe by spreading the Gospel.
Isn’t that incredible?
It’s both the honor and the calling of a lifetime. Let’s steward the call well together!
Apply and Respond: Who Will Preach? 👂
We all want people to be healed, saved and know the glory of Christ.
But in order for that to happen, they must first hear…
In Romans 10:14, Paul offers a reality check for those who might think evangelism is a task for “other people.”
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”
In the same way that people pass by a car accident on the road and assume that someone else must have called it in…
It can be easy to assume that better evangelists will do the discipling, baptizing, and teaching.
But not one will believe unless someone preached to them.
So instead of waiting for someone else to step up, recognize that the Great Commission is for you and for me.
The whole world won’t call on the name of the Lord unless they first hear the Good News!
God doesn’t want perfect evangelists. He wants obedient disciples.
Sharing the Gospel & Making Disciple-Makers 📣
Take one of these next steps based what you feel the Lord stirring in your spirit this week:
✍️ Write your personal testimony and share it with one person who doesn’t know Jesus.
What was life like before Jesus? What was your deepest need or struggle?
How did Jesus find you?
What's different now because of Jesus? What impact has He had on your life?
🤝 Pick one person to invest in and disciple.
Pick a timeframe to disciple them (6-12 months) and ask for their commitment to regular meetings for the sake of their spiritual growth.
If they are not discipling Openly talk with them about them taking the step of
🙏 Pray for God to reveal to you where he is already at work in the lives of those around you.
Ask him how you can join in on the work He’s already doing.
And pray for the healing and salvation of the people you want to see in the New Heavens and New Earth!
And… once you see one person turn to Jesus, start the process over!
Make a plan. Write it down. And find a community to keep you accountable.
You too can be a disciple-maker and join the long line of Jesus followers who were faithful to Jesus’ Great Commission!

Answer key ✅
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
