The story of Corrie ten Boom

The Torchlighters: Heroes of Faith

Do you know the story of Corrie ten Boom and her family?

As the evil of World War II swept through their city, an innocent Jewish baby was brought to their home.

How did the ten Booms hide this baby (and others) from the cruel Nazi invaders, and what will be the cost of serving God amidst unthinkable evils?

When faith is tested, hope is tried, and love is strained, will Corrie's God prevail?

This gripping episode of the Torchlighters is an amazing story of courage, sacrifice, and forgiveness.

CONTEXT 📕

Let’s connect the dots.

Micah 6:8 wasn’t a new command when Micah wrote it. And it wasn’t forgotten by the time Jesus arrived.

Micah was pointing people back to the heart of the covenant.

What God always wanted:
🟡 Justice
🟡 Mercy
🟡 Humility

Not performance. Not pretense. Not perfect sacrifices.

God was (and still is) after the heart.

Centuries later, Jesus steps into a world still missing the point.

The powerful were abusing the weak. The religious elite were obsessed with outward appearance.

Mercy had become optional. Humility was nowhere to be found.

And what does Jesus do?

He lives Micah 6:8.

He does justice — He defends the woman caught in adultery, welcomes children, and overturns tables of exploitation.

He loves mercy — He eats with tax collectors, heals lepers, and forgives His enemies.

He walks humbly — He washes feet, prays alone, and rides into Jerusalem not on a war horse, but on a donkey.

And then He goes even further.

He becomes the ultimate act of justice, paying for sin.

The ultimate display of mercy, absorbing what we deserved.

The ultimate walk of humility, laying down His life on a cross.

Micah said: This is what God requires.

Jesus said: This is who I am.

Jesus lived out Micah 6:8.

And now, by His Spirit, we’re invited to do the same.

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃‍♂️

One of my friends once described Jesus like this:

“He doesn’t stand at the top of the mountain yelling, ‘Climb up!’ He comes down the mountain and carries us up Himself.”

Micah 6:8 can feel like a mountain if you read it…without Jesus.

BUT thanks to Jesus…

Justice is no longer just a rule.

Mercy is no longer a vague idea.

Humility is no longer a difficult task.

They’re a reflection of Christ in you.

And this is exactly what the world needs to see more of from so many of us.

One thing I enjoy doing is sharing the texts I send to friends as I study these verses.

So here is my text that you can adapt and send to a brother or sister in Christ:

Hey! Random, but I was reading Micah 6 today: “to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God” - next time we get together, let’s talk about what it could look like us to live this out together in our town.

I’m new here. Good job guys. I like: 1) Your mission-to encourage planting the Word in my heart 2) The way you slow me down to really let the verse soak in (today it was David Guzik’s quote). 3) Great formatting…not cluttered or disorganized. 4) Your method of repetition over 2 weeks. 5) Your emails/app/instructions aren’t quirky. Give your tech guy a raise. 6) I’m not into gamification (I’m 68) but your little celebration 🎉 for my success is nice.

Your email was the first one I looked for this morning in my inbox. It’s a good one to snag my heart before I hit the news of the day!
