Connecting to Other Parts of Scripture 📖

Throughout Scripture, we see the importance of recording the works of God for the sake of teaching, instructing and building the faith of future generations.

18 Let this be recorded for a generation to come,

so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord

Psalm 102:18

Here are some examples…

In Exodus 34, God commands Moses to record the terms of His covenant with the Israelites:

27 And the Lord said to Moses, “Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”

28 And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

Exodus 34:27, 28b

Consider how famous the Ten Commandments are, even among people with zero faith background.

This is the power of God’s Word (and recording them for future generations).

Earlier in the week, we saw how this idea is communicated in Deuteronomy 6:6-7.

And elsewhere in the Psalms, we see the meaning of our memory verse be mirrored:

We will not hide them from their children,
but tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,
and the wonders that he has done.

He established a testimony in Jacob
and appointed a law in Israel,
which he commanded our fathers
 to teach to their children,
that the next generation might know them,
 the children yet unborn,
and arise and tell them to their children,
so that they should set their hope in God
and not forget the works of God,
 but keep his commandments

Psalm 78:4-7

The Gospels ✝️

Of course, we also have the gospels, which are the written records of the life, teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus.

The gospels are the perfect example of the power of recording God’s activity in the world for future generations.

29  Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

30  Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;

31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

John 20:29-31
Jesus on the Cross

I can’t even imagine where this world would be had the gospels not been recorded for future generations!

And lastly, in Revelation when John has a vision of Christ, he records these words:

17  When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.

18  I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

19 Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later…

Revelation 1:17-19

Think about it…

Records of God’s deeds and faithfulness connect the entire body of believers across thousands of years.

May we become people who:

  1. Read, appreciate and internalize God’s Word and the incredible record we have of His great faithfulness

  2. Get in the habit of recording our own stories of God’s activity in our lives to pass on to future generations

“so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord!”

That is what should come to mind when memorizing our verse this week.

Faith: Pass It On 🏃‍♂️

Remember that after our memory verse comes a beautiful declaration:

18 Let this be recorded for a generation to come,
so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
19 that he looked down from his holy height;
from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners,
to set free those who were doomed to die,
21 that they may declare in Zion the name of the Lord,
 and in Jerusalem his praise,
22 when peoples gather together,
and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.

Psalm 102:18-22

In other words, God looked down from heaven’s throne and heard the groans of us prisoners to sin.

Although we were doomed to die, he came down and set us free.

Why?

That we might declare the name of the Lord and worship Him! 🙌

Apply: Record God’s Faithfulness in Your Life 🏃

Today, I want to reinforce the application from yesterday.

I truly think it’s that important.

Here are some ideas for how you can do this on an ongoing basis:

  1. ✍️ Keep a spiritual journal: Write down answered prayers, lessons learned, ways you saw God's provision and deliverance in difficult times. Include Bible verses that were particularly meaningful during different seasons.

  2. ✉️ Write letters or emails to your children/grandchildren telling the stories of God's faithfulness in your life that you want passed down. Print them out and keep them in a binder.

  3. 📹️ Record yourself giving your personal testimony of how you came to faith or pivotal moments when God showed up in a big way. Future generations could watch/listen to this.

  4. 💻️ Start a family blog or private social media page where you consistently document how you see God moving and working in your daily life through written posts, photos or video updates.

  5. 📕 Write a spiritual memoir or autobiography detailing your walk with Christ - the joys, struggles, miracles and lessons learned over the years. Print copies for family.

The key is to be intentional about capturing these stories, reflections and life events in a preserved form using the written/recorded word.

This spiritual heritage provides encouragement while also highlighting the legacy of faith you hope to pass down.

Imagine how powerful this would be if the entire Malachi Daily community did this!

Our families and communities will be blessed by it! 🙏

💡 Pick one idea from above to start working towards! The key to doing this is to simply start - do it one step, one prayer, one act of God’s faithfulness at a time!

Community Feedback ❤️

Thank you for your daily emails. I am a newbie.

I didn't want to commit to something like this because I always fail but this has been so much more than memorizing a verse.

It is feeding and challenging me through the Scripture explanations and challenges.

Keep on going...God says His Word is above all and never returns void!
