Happy Friday, {{first_name | everyone}}!

You made it! Charles Spurgeon once said: "A Bible that's falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn't."

We hope your Bible is experiencing some wear (but hopefully not tear) this year.

Let's recap everything we covered this week and usher you into the weekend.

In today’s email…

  • 🧠 A summary of everything we’ve covered this week

  • 📚 In case you missed it…

  • 🤯 Were you able to memorize this week?

1 Corinthians 10:31

CONTEXT 📕

Here’s everything we covered this week.

On Monday, we introduced our verse and set the scene.

Paul wrote to the Corinthian church from Ephesus around AD 53–55, addressing a community that was young, messy, and trying to figure out what faithfulness looked like in one of the most morally complex cities in the Roman Empire.

We saw how "whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" was Paul's bottom-line principle. Rather than give a rulebook, he gave a lens through which to view every situation.

On Tuesday, we stepped into the Corinthian meat market and explored the dilemma that sparked Paul's teaching in chapters 8-10: food sacrificed to idols.

We saw how everyday decisions (what to eat, where to dine, which invitations to accept) were loaded with spiritual and social implications.

Paul's response wasn't a list of rules, but a question: "Does this bring glory to God?"

That question works just as well at our dinner tables as it did in ancient Corinth.

On Wednesday, we went back to the original Greek and studied three words.

  • Doxa (glory) showed us that Paul was redefining honor from something we chase for ourselves to something we reflect for God.

  • Pas (all) reminded us that there are no “secular” parts of our lives. Every aspect of our life (including Monday through Saturday) belongs to God.

  • And poieō (do) appeared twice, emphasizing that glorifying God is active, intentional, and woven into every action we take.

On Thursday, we looked at how Jesus is the only one who ever lived 1 Corinthians 10:31 perfectly. Every meal, every word, every breath was "for the glory of God."

4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.

John 17:4

And because of His obedience, we don't need to approach this verse with a desire to earn God’s approval.

We can approach it as people who've already been covered by grace, empowered by His Spirit to grow into the kind of people who want to do all for His glory.

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃‍♂

You've spent a week with seventeen words. Here's your challenge for the days ahead:

Say the verse out loud right now without looking. If you can, you've done it! The words are in you. Let that be an encouragement and come back to them often. If not, keep practicing! That’s part of why we have “off weeks” in between memorizing verses.

Carry this verse into the weekend. When you sit down to eat, when you're doing yard work, or when you're watching a movie with your family, let Paul's words surface: Do all to the glory of God.

Share it. People around us are starving for meaning and purpose. And they’re realizing that “doing whatever makes you happy” is an unsatisfying way to live. As you find yourself in conversations with people who are looking for meaning, offer this perspective: The meaning of life is to be in relationship with the God who created you, and to glorify Him through your everyday life.

And for your fellow believers, text this verse to someone who needs a reminder that the mundane moments matter to God.
