Daniel 3:17

TOGETHER WITH VOICE OF THE MARTYRS

If you're like me, you sometimes take it for granted that we can access our Bible whenever we want.

But believers in places like Somalia, Iran and North Korea risk imprisonment or death just to own Scripture.

And despite that, one of the most frequent requests Voice of the Martyrs receives from persecuted Christians worldwide is: "Please, can you get me a Bible?"

Many have never owned their own copy — they've memorized verses whispered in secret gatherings and treasured single pages passed hand to hand. But despite the danger, they're praying and asking for God's Word.

So we’re asking the Malachi Daily community to step in and get Bibles into their hands.

Here's how your support makes a difference:

  • 5 Bibles provides for a small house church

  • 10 Bibles equips an entire prayer group

  • 30 Bibles transforms an underground network

CONTEXT 📕

Let’s connect some dots.

Daniel’s fiery furnace isn’t just a dramatic rescue that stands on its own.

Far from it!

This moment looks back, echoing moments of divine intervention in the life of the Israelites (the exodus from Egypt, the battle of Jericho, and Gideon's Victory over the Midianites to name a few).

But it also points forward to something greater.

While it’s not explicitly stated, many see this as a pre‑incarnate vision of Jesus - God with us in the midst of trial.

And regardless of whether or not it was Jesus, the appearance of that mysterious “fourth man”, who looked “like a son of the gods” (Daniel 3:25) is undeniably a display of God’s power to save.

The Cross and the Furnace

Just as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were punished for defying King Nebuchadnezzar, we deserve punishment for the ways in which we sin against the God of the universe.

BUT…there’s something called amazing grace.

The radical devotion that led the three men into the furnace is the same pattern that led Jesus to the cross.

8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Philippians 2:8

Just as God saved Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego from physical death in the furnace, Jesus has rescued us from spiritual death.

Jesus lived a perfect life, perfectly obedient to the Father.

Yet, he chose to enter the ultimate "furnace" — bearing God's wrath on the cross — to save us from the punishment we deserve for our own sin.

All so that we could be in relationship with God again.

"For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

1 Peter 3:18, emphasis added

Jesus made it possible for man and God to dwell together again.

The goodness of the Garden, restored.

3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Revelation 21:3-4

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃‍♂️

What was the fruit of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego’s radical devotion?

28 Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king's command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God.

Daniel 3:28

They chose faithfulness over safety, and it caused King Nebuchadnezzar to bless God!

When we live with radical devotion in the midst of a trial or “furnace” (even when it doesn’t make sense to the outside world), people notice.

This week, let your faithfulness become a testimony:

  • 🔥 Identify a furnace: It could be something like financial pressure, relational conflict at work, or spiritual doubt.

  • ✝️ Invite Jesus in: Jesus, like You stood with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, stand with me now in this furnace. Help me sense your nearness and trust you with my whole self.

  • 🗣️ Share your story: In the midst of your furnace, be open to sharing the reason for your hope with a friend who doesn’t know Jesus.
