CONTEXT 📕
Paul is not trying to win friends in the letter to the Galatians.
In chapter 2, he mentions that Peter, a fellow apostle of Jesus, had been eating freely with Gentiles until a certain crew showed up from Jerusalem.
Suddenly, Peter pulls back and retreats into his old Jewish habits and rituals — he stops sharing the table.
It may seem subtle, but Paul sees it for what it is: a choice.
And a dangerous one.
So Paul doesn't let it slide. He goes toe-to-toe with the apostle in front of everyone.
It’s not really about Paul’s pet peeves with Peter. It’s really all about the integrity of the gospel.
Because what’s at stake isn’t just a seating chart. It’s the truth that we are made right with God by grace through faith, not by performance, pedigree, or religious rule-keeping.
He says:
We know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ
Paul then goes on to our what we’re memorizing this week:
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
Paul is describing a Spirit-filled life — one that looks like resurrection.
Not a life weighed down by the Law, but a life fueled by faith, shaped by Jesus, and powered by love.
And it stands in stark contrast to Peter’s fallback, returning to a way of living that never truly brought life.
Galatians 2:20 is a call to leave the old behind. Old sins. Old habits. Old performances meant to impress.
A new day has dawned.
Christ died for you.
So now, live like he lives in you — even when it’s uncomfortable.
APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃♂️
It’s easy to slip into “Jesus plus” —adding effort, rule-keeping, or spiritual checklists to feel worthy again.
But Paul reminds us: if we’re crucified with Christ, then our old selves — the striving, the proving, the pressure to perform — are already dead.
Now, Christ lives in us. That’s the gospel. Nothing else is needed.
🧠 Reflect: What are you still clinging to for spiritual worth — habits, titles, reputation, pet doctrines? Where are you resisting the simplicity of God’s grace?
📖 Read: Galatians 2:20. Say it out loud. In the morning and before bed, get in a rhythm. Let it reframe your identity.
🙏 Pray
Jesus, I lay down the self-centered version of me — my fear, my performance, my pride. I want people to see the Christ in me. Please live through me and teach me to trust Your life in mine. Amen.

TOGETHER WITH THE VOICE OF THE MARTYRS
The persecuted pastor who plays baseball in Cuba
As a Cuban teenager devoted to the Lord, Joel was certain there was one calling he would never follow: He did not want to be a pastor.
But at 17, Joel heard the Lord’s call on his life to serve. After he completed seminary, he arrived in a mountain town that would serve as his mission field for 12 years.
In those years, Joel was arrested 17 times for preaching, distributing Bibles, or evangelizing. But he served faithfully, helping to plant more than 25 churches that served more than 6,000 Christians.
Now, he uses his love for baseball to serve people who have never heard of Christ, especially young people.
Please join us in praying for Joel and other believers in Cuba being persecuted for following Jesus.
And let Joel's story of bold faith inspire you to share the gospel with those around you this week!
