Happy Monday, {{first_name | everyone}}!
Many of us (knowingly or unknowingly) spend the bulk of our lives seeking a sense of worth in our success, our relationships, or in other people’s opinions of us. This week's verse is the antidote.
Excited to dig into one of the foundational truths underlying our faith.
In today's email…
📖 Where the Bible begins, and why the sixth day is the whole point
🪞 The approval you keep chasing vs. the one you already have

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27

CONTEXT 📕
Genesis is the book of beginnings.
The word Genesis itself means "origin," and Moses wrote it for a people who had just walked out of Egypt into a world crowded with other stories about how everything began.
Most of those stories were…brutal.
The gods made humans almost as an afterthought, to do their labor and stay out of the way.
Genesis tells a different story.
God speaks, and the world comes into being, ordered and good. Light, sky, land and sea, plants, sun and moon, fish, birds, animals, each set in its place.
Then, on the sixth day, the account slows down. Before making us, God pauses and deliberates with himself:
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness."
Everything before this has been building toward it. Humanity is the crowned jewel of creation, the one creature made uniquely to carry God's image.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
That is where our week starts.
Before you have done, achieved, or earned a single thing, this was already true of you.
You were created by the Creator, and you are like him.
APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃
📖 Read Genesis 1 slowly today.
This week, pay attention to where you might be finding a sense of feeling worthy: a number on a scale, a title at work, the money in your account or the approval of someone whose opinion you can't stop thinking about.
Before you dig into the verse, remember one thing: the value and significance you are chasing was declared long ago on the sixth day of creation.
🙏 Pray
Father, before I did anything to earn it, you made me in your image. Help me stop auditioning for a role you freely give me. Quiet the voices I keep trying to please, and make your voice the one I hear loud and clear this week. Amen.
