Happy Friday, {{first_name | everyone}}!
We hope you had a Merry Christmas yesterday!
John 1:14 has always been a special verse to us. It was one of the first verses we memorized over 2 years ago, when Malachi Daily was done via text message (back when there were only 500 people memorizing Scripture).
Today by the grace of God, we are over 120,000 strong.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of this community 🙏

CONTEXT 📕
This week, we’ve explored John 1:14:
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
On Monday, we looked at the world John wrote into.
John’s Gospel was written in a time of rising tension and confusion. Early Christians faced persecution, were being pushed out of synagogues, and were wrestling with deep questions about Jesus’ true identity.
John answers with bold clarity: Jesus is not just a prophet or teacher or even God “pretending to be human.” He is the eternal Word — the very presence of God in human flesh. He came to make God known and to dwell among us!
On Tuesday, we explored the structure and movement of John 1.
John’s Gospel begins before time: “In the beginning was the Word.” This cosmic opening draws on Scripture (Genesis 1:1) and even Greek philosophy (logos) — all pointing to Jesus as the embodiment of God who has existed forever.
The Word becomes flesh. Heaven has now touched earth. And John the Baptist testifies to why He has come: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
The Word is a person, and people begin to follow.
On Wednesday, we unpacked three key Greek words from John 1:14:
sarx: “Flesh” — Jesus took on real human nature, body and all.
eskēnōsen: “Dwelt” — God didn’t just appear, he “tabernacled” among us and made his home with us.
doxa: “Glory” — In Jesus, we see God’s beauty, power, and mercy up close.
We reflected on what it means to have a God who is not distant or disconnected from what we experience in this life.
He doesn’t just “understand it” intellectually because He is all-knowing.
He submitted Himself to the experience of pain, betrayal, suffering and death — even death on a cross.
The Word became flesh so no part of our lives is too small or broken for his presence.
And finally, on Thursday we turned our focus to God’s glory made visible through Jesus’ ministry and healing, suffering, resurrection, and ascension.
Jesus was glorified at the cross and raised in power. Now, exalted at the Father’s right hand, he intercedes for us.
The infinite became finite: The present-everywhere God became confined to a single human body in a single location in a single time period.
The all-powerful became vulnerable: The Creator became a helpless Jewish infant in a nation under Roman oppression.
The giver of life became sin to the point of death: The source of all life submitted himself to an excruciating, humiliating death on the cross.
Why? Because he loves you.
And because God wanted to spend eternity with you.
And He stopped at nothing to restore the original communion we had with God in the Garden.
We have His presence with us through the Holy Spirit now. And we look forward to dwelling fully in His presence later.
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃♂
The Word became flesh and now the Word is still at work, through you.
If we’ve truly considered what it means for Jesus to dwell among us, to share in our humanity, to reveal God’s glory full of grace and truth, then we don’t just admire him. We respond.
Thank God. Praise Him for entering our world and sacrificing Himself so that we could be forgiven for our sins.
Pray for boldness. Ask God to give you courage to live and speak clearly about who Jesus is.
Reach out to one person this week. Text, call, or talk face-to-face with someone who feels weary and needs. Share why it matters to you that Jesus chose to dwell with us.
Pray 🙏
Jesus, thank you for becoming flesh and dwelling with us. Let the love that motivated you to do that melt my heart. Help me meditate on your unending pursuit of your children, and let that move me to tell others of your love. Open my eyes to those who need your light, and give me boldness to point them to you. Amen.
