Merry Christmas, {{first_name | everyone}}!

It’s time to connect our passage to the ministry and meaning of Jesus. Which is, admittedly, pretty easy with John 1:14!

In today’s email…

  • ✝️ The glory of Jesus is revealed

  • 🫴 Reaching out to someone

  • 🔦 Community spotlight!

MEMORIZE 🧠

And the ____ _______ ______ and _____ _____ __, __ ____ ____ ___ _____ ,

_____ __ of the only ___ ____ ___ ______, full of _____ ___ _____.

John 1:14

CONTEXT 📕

Yesterday, we reflected on the staggering truth that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

But John doesn’t stop there. After telling us that the Word became flesh, he adds something crucial:

“..and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:14b

That glory reached its peak in the resurrection. And it was revealed again in the ascension, when he took his seat at the right hand of the Father, because…

3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.

Hebrews 1:3a

Here’s the wonder of it all: Jesus — fully God and fully human — now intercedes for us.

34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

Romans 8:34

The glory of God is not cold or distant. It is full of grace and truth — marked by deep affection for every person who has ever lived.

Consider this: The Creator of the universe wanted so badly to be with you that..

The infinite became finite: The present-everywhere God became confined to a single human body in a single location in a single time period.

The all-powerful became vulnerable: The Creator became a helpless Jewish infant in a nation under Roman oppression.

The giver of life became sin to the point of death: The source of all life submitted himself to an excruciating, humiliating death on the cross.

Why? He wants to be with you.

Why? Because he loves you.

“..you are precious in my eyes,

and honored, and I love you..”

Isaiah 43:4

Think about the person you love most — a spouse, a child, a sibling, a friend — and how your favorite thing to do is simply be with them.

God wanted to be with you infinitely more than you want to be with that person.

God wanted to spend eternity with you.

And He stopped at nothing to make that possible.

3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Revelation 21:3-4

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃‍♂

When John says, “we have seen his glory,” he’s talking about what he witnessed up close. The disciples saw Jesus’ glory in ordinary moments and extraordinary ones. In his compassion. In his power. In his suffering. And ultimately, in his resurrection.

And they didn’t just admire what they saw. They couldn’t not talk about it.

That’s how the gospel moved — from person to person, story to story, life to life.

This week, you’ve been reminded that God became flesh, lived among us, died for us and rose from the dead. That truth isn’t meant to stay contained.

So here’s a simple invitation: don’t keep it to yourself.

Share how the truth of the incarnation has moved you with a friend, a coworker, or someone from church.

This time of year, people are often more open than we expect. May we be mirrors that reflect His glory and point people to the source of light!

🙏 Pray

Jesus, thank you for becoming flesh and dwelling among us. Thank you for showing us the glory of the Father. Let your glory shine through my life in small, faithful ways. Use me to encourage others and reflect your love to the world around me. Amen.

I love it that I can miss a day or so of your writing and quickly pick up on the core of your message. BTW, those messages have been eloquently written. It’s a pleasure to read your encouraging words that give me spiritual food to help me over rough spots in my days…and to share with others as I feel their need.
