Happy Monday, everyone!

Justice. Mercy. Humility.

Three words that come loaded with implications, false ideas, and misaligned beliefs. Also three words that come loaded with hope, safety, and love.

This week, we will discover how God sees them.

Note: We’re kicking off a series where we’ll be highlighting the experience of our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ from around the world (more below).

As we do, we invite you to join us in praying for them. Our hope is that the Holy Spirit will use their stories to inspire you to live on fire for Christ.

MEMORIZE 🧠

He has told you, O man, what is good;

and what does the Lord require of you

but to do justice, and to love kindness,

and to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:8

CONTEXT 📕

The Book of Micah appears in the Old Testament as a call to a nation in crisis.

Micah was a prophet living in the 8th century BC after King Solomon’s death.

Israel (the northern kingdom) and Judah (the southern kingdom) were splitting apart due to political and spiritual rebellion.

Current leaders were abusing the poor and religious practices were empty of true devotion to God.

In Micah 6, God’s voice breaks through not with more rules or more rituals, but through a courtroom-style challenge.

He retraces Israel’s rescue from Egypt and their journey into the Promised Land.

Then He asks: “With what shall I come before the Lord...? Thousands of rams? My firstborn child?”

And then comes our memory verse:

He has told you, O man, what is good;

and what does the Lord require of you

but to do justice, and to love kindness,

and to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:8

Micah’s point is that God isn’t asking for grand sacrifices or religious heroics.

He’s calling His people (and us) to genuine faith that is evident through actions:

  • Do justice — act fairly and stand for the vulnerable

  • Love mercy — show compassion and kindness to others

  • Walk humbly — live dependently and genuinely before God

Why does this still matter today?

Micah’s warnings remind us that religious activity is empty when we ignore injustice, neglect compassion, and walk in pride.

This week, we’ll take a closer look at what this means for us in 21st century North America.

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃‍♂️

📖 Read – Read Micah 6:1–8 to prepare for the week. Pay attention to the voice of the courtroom: how does God remind Israel of His faithfulness?

🧠 Reflect – What roles or routines in your life might be distracting you from true justice, true mercy, or true humility before God?

🙏 Pray

Father, would You open my eyes to injustice where I’m blind, grace where I’m cold, and humility where I’m proud? Help me live Your way today.

Christians receive job training after attack

In August of 2023, more than 80 Christian homes and 25 churches were destroyed in Jaranwala, Pakistan. The attack occurred after allegations that Christians in the area had desecrated a copy of the Quran.

Christians fled into nearby fields to hide while their homes and churches were looted and destroyed.

Pakistani Christians face difficulties, discrimination and persecution because of their Christian identity.

Front-line workers have established a training center to help Christian women learn how to read and sew, skills they can use to earn an income while remaining in the relative safety of their homes.
