CONTEXT 📕
So far, we’ve seen how Proverbs 13 contrasts the wise, diligent, righteous path with the fool’s short-term mindset.
And we’ve seen how verse 22 centers on ṭôb (true goodness) and nachalah (inheritance and legacy).
Now, let’s consider how Jesus talks about wealth, money and legacy.

Rather than focusing solely on the things of this world, Jesus pointed us to eternity:
Luke 12:21 — “Life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
Luke 12:33–34 — “Sell your possessions and give to the needy…for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Matthew 6:20 — “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.”
For me, the most memorable place Jesus talks about how we should use the temporary resources of this world is in the parable of the shrewd manager.
In Luke 16:1–13, Jesus tells story with a surprise ending.
We don’t have enough time to get into all of it now, but if you read it, you’ll see one interesting lesson Jesus is trying to teach us:
The wise person uses temporary resources (money, possessions, wealth) for eternal impact.
Because contrary to popular belief, the Bible never says that money itself is a bad thing.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils.
If money itself were the root of evil, God would not have given us the power to get wealth:
18 You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
So it’s clear that throughout Scripture, money is a tool.
It can be used for good (generosity, meeting needs, advancing God’s kingdom) or for evil (greed, exploitation, idolatry).
The issue lies in our heart posture toward it and how we use it.
Solomon (Proverbs 18:22) and Jesus both want us to understand one thing:
money, wealth, and possessions are temporary resources we can use to create eternal impact.
So no matter how much or how little you have, you can leave an eternal inheritance to the next generation.
APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃♂️
Most of us want to leave a legacy, but few are taking intentional steps today that move us in that direction.
Here are a few actionable suggestions:
Pass your faith to children, grandchildren, or young people God placed in your community:
Tell personal faith stories by sharing specific times God answered prayer or guided you.
Model daily devotion: Let kids see you reading Scripture and praying regularly.
Celebrate spiritual milestones: Baptisms, answered prayers, Scripture memory achievements.
Serve together: Bring them along when you help at church or in the community.
Teach from life’s moments: Use everyday situations to point to God’s truth.
Use your material wealth and possessions for eternal purposes in your lifetime:
Support gospel workers: Give to missionaries, evangelists, and church planters sharing the gospel
Fund Bible transmission: Help put God’s Word into the hands of people who don’t know Jesus.
Meet needs locally: Support food banks, shelters, or crisis pregnancy centers.
Leave an inheritance to future generations to do the same.
Create a charitable trust or foundation: Earmark funds for ministry causes.
Write a giving clause in your will: Allocate a percentage to specific gospel efforts.
Teach heirs how to give: Include them in decision-making about charitable giving before you’re gone.
Which one of the above steps do you sense God calling you to take action on?
COMMUNITY FEEDBACK ❤️
I look forward to these studies! Very easy to understand and well written. I have learned so much - reading the Bible by myself is not enough since there are so many things that need interpretation. With these studies, the pages come alive! Thank you!

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children,
but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous.
