Some parts of the Bible are quiet and personal, and then you hit a psalm that is basically shouting from the rooftops. It’s a reminder that faith may be personal, but it’s never meant to stay private.

CONTEXT 📕
The Gospel is good news. In fact, that’s what the word gospel literally means.
This is something people say often, but…do we really believe it?
When we look at the world around us, it’s easy to see that people are searching for something.
It’s expressed all the time in films, songs, and conversations. Everyone is looking for a way to satisfy their infinite desires — and since they try to fill that desire with finite things (material possessions, others’ approval, travel, people), they’re left dissatisfied with a feeling of emptiness.
And this often leads people to ask big questions.
Why am I here? Why are we here as humans?
Is this all really some pointless and painful existence on a little blue dot floating in space?
Our Psalm this week speaks directly to these existential questions — not with a scientific and structured logical argument — but in song.
And it gives us a profound method for answering them: Take it back to the very beginning.
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
I remember the day I really realized God is not only my Father, Savior, or King…He is my Maker and my Creator.
This means that he knows exactly what I’m made for and he alone has the answers I seek.
He made the heavens and they know what they’re meant to do: worship him.
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
let the field exult, and everything in it!
But we forgot this when sin entered the picture and brought a divide. Yet all hope was not lost…
It all started with a promise in Genesis 3:15 where a good God vowed to make a way to restore closeness with His people.
And eventually, that bridge came through Jesus Christ.
God fulfilled his promise by coming near to us so that we can live the way he intended - bringing him glory.
Psalm 96 encourages us to share this good news far and wide…because it is way too good to keep it to ourselves!
Oh sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
tell of his salvation from day to day.

Father, you made me. The most important thing about me is my identity as your child, created in your image and likeness. Please help me to remember this when I forget my whole purpose is to praise you. Amen.
