A review of the week 🤔

This week, we explored 2 Peter 1:5–7 — a verse that brings assurance and points us to the truth of the Gospel!

On Monday, we looked at the historical background.

The apostle Peter was the former fisherman who denied Jesus 3 times, but later became a bold preacher until the point of death.

In the face of execution in Rome, he wrote to the church in Asia Minor.

He encouraged them to remain faithful to apostolic teaching and grow in Christlikeness in the face of false teachers causing confusion about Christ’s return.

On Tuesday, we explored the idea of how fruit confirms calling and election.

On Wednesday, we dug into in the specific spiritual virtues, or fruit, mentioned in our memory verse.

On Thursday, we saw how Peter testifies to the truth of the Gospel through apostolic testimony (and we wrote down our own testimonies).

To sum it all up: A genuine relationship with Christ produces evidence (the spiritual fruit listed in our memory verse).

The evidence that God is transforming us gives us assurance in our calling, and it fuels our witness to a world in desperate need of healing and the Healer.

Apply and Respond: Using Our Words to Fuel Our Witness 🔥

Hopefully you wrote out your testimony yesterday!

Challenge 📣

Every so often, I have a sobering conversation with God where he asks me:

Honest question: When was the last time you shared your testimony?

And I’m struck by how easy it is to avoid doing the thing of utmost importance in my life. So I hope you’ll join me in this week’s challenge.

The challenge is simple: Find 1 opportunity this weekend to share your story with someone.

Pray 🙏

Thank you for your Word, Lord.

As your servant Peter used his testimony to encourage others, I pray that my testimony would encourage the people You draw into my life.

Show me where your Spirit is moving. Give me courage to share my testimony boldly so that others might encounter you and know your love. Amen. 🙏

Answer key

For this reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,

and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,

and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
