✝️ Psalm 46:10 | The God Who Is With Us

Happy Thursday, {{first_name | everyone}}!

Midweek can carry a lot of noise, so it’s good to pause and let this little verse remind us that God is near. Today is the day we connect this week's verse to Jesus and see how the God who says "Be still" is the same God who came to be with us.

Psalm 46:10

Who is this God whom we behold?
Who will be exalted among the nations and in all the earth?

When we become still (let go) and know Him (recognize His sovereignty), we can see who He is.

This happened for Moses at the burning bush when he asked God this very question and God responded with “I AM” (Exodus 3:14).

Where we are standing this week is also holy ground and our memory verse echoes these words: “…and know that I am God.”

Our focus this week has often been on the glory and holiness of God.

Yet the God we serve is nothing like any other conceptions of god - His ways are upside-down.

He stoops down to create from dust (Genesis 2:7). He is compassionate and kind (Exodus 34:6). He rides a humble donkey (Mark 11:7). He washes the feet of his followers (John 13:5). He died so we can live (2 Corinthians 5:15).

The Good News message of the gospel is hidden right in Psalm 46 - did you notice it?

God’s nearness to us is more than a nice theory.

The name Immanuel, meaning God-with-us, captures this (Isaiah 7:14). Jesus came close so that we didn’t have to remain far from God.

This is the God we behold, surrender to, and know - the person and passion of Jesus Christ.

And it doesn’t end there. When Jesus ascended, he did not leave us alone.

He gave us a Helper (John 14:26), the Holy Spirit of God who is with us every day, guiding us, and showing us how to live God’s way.

The Lord of hosts is still with us.

Let’s make it practical. It’s one thing to hear the Word, but we need to allow it to transform our minds and lives.

Do you live with the reality of God’s nearness and His Spirit’s guidance?

🏃‍♂ Act

Choose one moment today to stop striving. In the middle of a worry, decision, or busy task, pause and surrender control to God: “You are God, I am not. Help me trust and obey You.”

Then turn outward: move toward someone who may feel unseen. Give them unhurried attention, ask how they are really doing, listen well, and respond with a concrete act of care, mirroring how Jesus drew near to us.

Father, thank you for crossing the divide and entering our reality. I believe that your Son became man, lived the perfect life, and became the flawless sacrifice. You did all of us so that we can know you and make your name great in all the earth. Be glorified in my life. Amen.
