CONTEXT 📕

What a week!

Here's a review of what we covered as we head into the weekend:

On Monday, we saw that Genesis 1:27 (God creating humans) is the summit of the creation account.

God speaks the world into being, then slows down on the sixth day to make one creature uniquely in his image.

As human beings, our worth and dignity before God was decided before we were even born.

On Tuesday, we learned that being made in the image of God comes with a job.

In Genesis 1:26–31 God makes humans to represent him and rule his world. He gives this dominion to both "male and female" and only uses the phrase “very good” when his created world contains his image-bearers.

Humans are the crowned jewel of his creation.

On Wednesday, we studied the Hebrew word tselem, "image," the word often used to describe a king's statue that is placed in geographic regions to make it clear: his rule extends and applies here.

And we learned how in the ancient world only kings bore the god's image, but Genesis democratizes that honor to every person.

And finally on Thursday, we saw how the image that was broken in Eden by Adam and Eve was restored in Jesus, "the image of the invisible God," who perfectly bore God’s image during his life.

And for those of us who trust in Him for salvation, His Spirit dwells in us, restoring our ability to bear God’s image.

What was marred by sin is being renewed by grace, and one day that restoration will be complete when we are conformed perfectly to Christ, who is Himself the perfect image of God.

They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

Revelation 22:4

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃

You now have one verse and one truth to carry into the weekend: you already bear God's image, and so does everyone you'll meet.

💪 Challenge: Do two things before Monday. First, catch yourself performing for approval you already have, and stop. Second, treat one person, especially one you find hard, as the image-bearer they are.

🙏 Pray

Father, thank you for a week in your Word. You made me in your image and you're remaking me in Christ. Send me into this weekend resting in that, chasing no one's approval but yours, and honoring your image in everyone I meet. Amen.
