TOGETHER WITH PRISON FELLOWSHIP INTERNATIONAL

Forgotten Children Need Hope Today

A child should never suffer because of a parent’s mistakes. Yet millions of children with incarcerated parents face poverty, isolation and exploitation every day. They are among the most vulnerable, yet forgotten, populations.

Prison Fellowship International helps children with education support, Christian mentoring and community care that points families to Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Tawah wept when her eight children were finally given the chance to return to school after years without education following their father’s incarceration. Your gift today of $30 provides two months of critical resources for children like hers. Click below to help another child experience that same hope and remind families that they are not forgotten.

CONTEXT 📕

As we’ve seen so far this week, Lamentations 3:22–23 stands out as one of the clearest declarations of hope in the Old Testament.

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22–23

And what makes these words so remarkable is:

  1. that they are spoken in the middle of suffering (not after it has ended), and

  2. they point to God’s unchanging attributes

This is a theme echoed throughout the entire Old Testament.

When God reveals himself to Moses, he describes himself as “merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness” (Exodus 34:6).

The psalmists repeatedly celebrate these same attributes.

For example, Psalm 136 declares twenty-six times that God’s “steadfast love endures forever.”

No matter how many times Israel failed, God remained faithful to his covenant promises.

While this theme is visible throughout the OT, Lamentations 3 also points forward to Jesus Christ, who is the fullest expression of God’s steadfast love, mercy, and faithfulness.

Jesus embodied these traits throughout his earthly ministry. He showed compassion to sinners, healed the sick, welcomed the outcast, and announced good news to the poor.

And ultimately, it was God’s steadfast love, mercy and faithfulness that led Jesus to the cross.

Even while humanity was still in rebellion, even when some of God’s chosen people turned against him, Christ died for everyone.

8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

God’s covenant love for the humans he created in Genesis 1 finds its fullest expression in Christ’s sacrificial death.

And God’s faithfulness to his promises is revealed in the resurrection.

2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Genesis 12:2-3

I will make you as a light for the nations,

that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.

Isaiah 49:6b

Lamentations teaches us to rest in God's character during seasons of grief and turmoil.

Our circumstances might not change in the timeline that we wantapproximately 2,000 years passed from God’s promise to Abraham and Jesus’ death and resurrection.

But no matter what you’re walking through right now, we know how the story ends.

3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Revelation 21:3-4

God’s steadfast love never ceases.

His mercies are still new every morning.

And his faithfulness guarantees that all who put their faith in Jesus will enjoy eternal life.

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃‍♂

Jesus, as the Son of God, embodies the steadfast love, mercies, and faithfulness of God. And through him, we are invited to do the same.

Here are a few ways to live this out:

Wait without withdrawing: If you're praying for healing, reconciliation, a job, or direction, resist the urge to stop praying because nothing seems to be changing. Instead, set aside five minutes today to bring that request to God again, trusting that his faithfulness will happen on his timeline.

📞 Reach out instead of retreating: When discouragement makes you want to isolate yourself, call a trusted Christian friend and ask them to pray with you. The Christian life was not meant to be a solitary one.

🤝 Become an instrument of God's mercy: Think of someone who is struggling and reach out intentionally. Send a text, make a phone call, bring a meal, or offer practical help.

Pray 🙏

Lord, when I am tempted to judge your faithfulness by my circumstances, remind me to look to Jesus. Help me trust your steadfast love, receive your mercies each day, and rest in your faithfulness. Give me perseverance while I wait and make me a reflection of your compassion to those around me. Amen.
