CONTEXT 📕
As we reach the end of our time with Psalm 46:10, let’s reflect on everything this verse revealed about God this week:
On Monday we started out by considering what this song by the Sons of Korah teaches us about being still before God.
The prophets and psalmists helped God’s people to put their trust in him, even when their circumstances felt stormy. We also considered how Jesus calmed the storm with the words, “Peace, be still”.
Tuesday invited us deeper into the chapter as a whole.
We saw that Psalm 46 is a declaration of victory, contrasting the chaos of the world with the peace of God.
It challenges us to “live with open hands and open ears,” not holding onto anything too tightly, but surrendering it all before God instead.
Wednesday took us to the original language. The word for “be still”, rāp̄â, is stronger and more freeing than a general prompt to ‘calm down’. Rather, it’s an invitation to loosen our grip, and surrender our fears and worries to God’s sovereign rule.
We considered parallel Scriptures using this same word and saw that it often follows beholding the glory of God. Because when we remember who he is, we can be still (rāp̄â).
And yesterday we looked at the God who is with us - Jesus Christ, Immanuel. God is not distant or passive - he is actively involved in the lives of his people.
We saw how the message of the Gospel is hidden in our memory verse chapter along with a declaration of God’s identity as the great “I am”.
Psalm 46:10 reminds us who God is and whose we are. It is from this place of looking at him that we can “be still” no matter what storms of life rage around us.

💪 Challenge
Think of a moment coming up on your calendar or schedule that you already expect to be stressful - it could be an appointment you are dreading, or time with a person who…isn’t your favorite.
Set a reminder on your phone now to pop up during that time slot with the words of Psalm 46:10.
Let this verse be an invitation to stillness in a stormy moment.

Father, you are unchanging. Thank you that your Word offers me such tangible ways to learn about you, but also get to know you more and more. Please renew my mind by your Spirit and help me to remember this verse when I need it most. Amen.
