TOGETHER WITH AXIS

How We’re Doing Less (and Experiencing More) This Advent

Christmas has a way of filling up our calendars, stretching our budgets, and leaving us exhausted. But what if this Advent, you did less — and experienced more?

Advent Light from Axis is a simpler way to celebrate the season and keep Jesus at the center (plus, it's free).

No elaborate activities. No perfect family moments required. Just one short daily reflection, Scripture, and Conversation Starter to help your family connect with each other and with Christ. Whether it's during school pickup, over dinner, or somewhere between holiday errands, Advent Light meets your family right where you are.

And if you miss a day? No worries, because the light of Christmas isn't found in doing more. It's found in Jesus. Click below to sign up for Advent Light today.

CONTEXT 📕

We introduced our new verse on Monday by looking at the message communicated throughout Paul’s letter.

He was writing to believers in the region of Galatia who started out strong in their faith...But outside influences, bad teaching, and social pressures pulled them off course.

Specifically, false teachers came in and added requirements to the gospel.

They persuaded the Galatians that trusting Christ was not enough and that they needed to keep aspects of the law in order to be accepted by God.

On Tuesday we looked at the verses building up to verse 9 and we learned the difference between sowing to the flesh vs. sowing to the Spirit.

We also reflected on how learning to sow to the Spirit is not a DIY project. It’s not up to us to fix ourselves (thank God!).

The Holy Spirit is our special helper from God. And no one can produce the fruit of the Spirit (that Paul speaks about in Galatians 5) without being connected to, staying near to, or abiding in God.

On Wednesday we broke down three phrases and what they mean: doing good, growing weary, and giving up.

We had you reflect on a time when you gave up on something and considered the tipping point between getting weary and deciding to give up.

Then, we helped you plan for it, so the next time you’re tempted to give up and stop doing the good works God called you to, you have a specific action you can take to connect with God.

And yesterday we found Jesus in the verse and traced it back to the Great Commandment (loving God, loving people). We looked at how Jesus lived out what Galatians chapter 6 calls us to do.

And we were reminded that we endure and persevere by fixing our eyes on Jesus and considering what he did for us.

When we look at him, all those other things vying for our attention fade away.

Galatians 6:9 is not the first place where we read about sowing, God’s seasons, & the good we’ll reap.

The Bible is full of rich imagery using this language as a metaphor for a life lived close to God.

Let’s end our week together with one verse from the Old Testament prophets that echo the themes of our memory verse:

❝

Sow for yourselves righteousness;
    reap steadfast love;
    break up your fallow ground,
for it is the time to seek the Lord,
that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.

Hosea 10:12

APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃‍♂

💪 Challenge

I can often catch myself living on autopilot. I walk and frown, talk and complain, eat and rush, work and sigh.

But when I get intentional — I smile, thank, savor, and pray — and my experience of this life changes.

Take this verse into the weekend by paying special attention to what you sow

  • with your words,

  • gestures,

  • facial expression,

  • actions,

  • and loves (the things that matter to you).

🙏 Pray

Father, you are close to those who call on you. You open the door when we knock. You give when we ask. Help me sow good things, sow in the Spirit, and sow lasting seeds. In Jesus’ name, amen.

ANSWER KEY ✅

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

Have a blessed weekend!

I want to bless you with Psalm 27:13 — may you experience the goodness of God, not only one day in his Kingdom, but even now — in the land of the living.

❝

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord

in the land of the living!
