Happy Friday, {{first_name | everyone}}!
Here’s a great quote I came across this quote from a New Testament scholar named David Peterson:
Faithfulness in small things is a big thing to God.
Let’s wrap up the week!
In today’s email…
🎓 A recap of our week in Lamentations 3:22-23

CONTEXT 📕
All week, we’ve explored Lamentations 3:22-23. Let’s review what we’ve learned!
On Monday, we looked at the background the book of Lamentations.
Lamentations is a collection of poetic laments written in response to the destruction of Jerusalem — one of the darkest moments in Israel’s history. Rather than avoiding grief, the book gives God’s people language to bring their sorrow, questions, and repentance honestly before the Lord.
At its core, Lamentations teaches that suffering is real, sin has consequences, and grief should be expressed rather than ignored. Yet even in the midst of loss and judgment, the book points to a deeper hope: God’s steadfast love, mercy, and faithfulness remain.
On Tuesday, we focused on Lamentations 3, the theological and emotional center of the book.
We saw how the chapter begins with a deeply personal lament, as the writer describes suffering, sorrow, and a sense of being overwhelmed by God's judgment.
Then, in the middle of the chapter, everything turns. The writer deliberately shifts his focus away from his circumstances and towards God's character.
The chapter teaches us that hope is found in remembering who God is.
Because God is steadfast in love, rich in mercy, and great in faithfulness, we can wait patiently and trust him even when we cannot see what he is doing.
On Wednesday, we examined three key words in Lamentations 3:22–23 that explain why the writer is able to hope even in the midst of suffering.
"steadfast love" reminds us that God remains loyal to his people and committed to his promises
"mercies" reminds us that God's compassion never runs dry. His mercies are renewed each morning like a good father with his children, regardless of yesterday's failures or struggles.
"faithfulness" reminds us that God is reliable, trustworthy, and unchanging even when life is uncertain.
And on Thursday, we connected Lamentations 3:22–23 to the broader story of Scripture.
We saw that the steadfast love, mercies, and faithfulness celebrated in Lamentations are not new ideas.
These attributes show up in God's self-revelation to Moses, are celebrated throughout the Psalms, and ultimately, they find their fullest expression in Jesus Christ.
In his ministry, Jesus made God's mercy visible through his compassion for sinners, the sick, and the outcasts.
In his death, he demonstrated God's steadfast love by giving himself for a rebellious world.
And in his resurrection, he revealed God's faithfulness by fulfilling his promises and overcoming death itself.
And now, we too can live these traits out in our own circles of influence.
APPLY AND RESPOND 🏃♂
Hopefully, this has become clear this week:
God's steadfast love never ceases. God's mercies never come to an end. God's faithfulness remains unshaken…
...even when life is difficult, confusing, or painful.
From the ruins of Jerusalem to the empty tomb of Jesus Christ, Scripture shows us that our hope is not ultimately found in our circumstances, our strength, or our ability to endure. Our hope is found in the unchanging character of God and the finished work of Jesus Christ.
So this week, our challenge is to strengthen someone's hope.
Reach out to a fellow believer who is walking through a difficult season.
Send a text, make a phone call, or meet for coffee and remind them of a specific way you have seen God's faithfulness in your life, or theirs.
🙏 Pray
Lord, thank you for your steadfast love, your endless mercies, and your great faithfulness. Help me to place my hope in your character rather than my circumstances. Use me to encourage those who are weary, strengthen those who are struggling, and remind others of the hope we have in Jesus Christ. May my words and actions point people to your faithfulness today. Amen.
